New to Lake Sinclair Catfishing, so thought I would try some tricks I learned when on TDY in TEXAS.
Stopped at tractor supply, bought a sack of cattle cubes for a few dollars. Stopped by WAL-MART and bought one of those zip up laundry bags the ladies use to machine wash their hand washables. I don't know what it's called.... ask yo wimmens!!!
Anyhow, load up the hand-wash bag with the cow cubes, drop it in a metal mesh fish keeper (also from WALMART). The fine mesh of the hand-wash bag keeps the cattle cubes contained even after they have dissolved.
Kind of the same consistency as baby poo. And the metal mesh container keeps the cats from hauling it away once you tie it off on your dock.
Now- tie it off- and come back hours later and fish DOWNSTREAM of it depending on the tide. (Sinclair has a tide from the power station as they move the water back n forth to Oconee.)
I was using punch bait and some cut shad I netted. Fishing sunset and again sunrise. No4 treble hook (no spring) and a 1 oz eqq sinker TEXAS rigged.
Caught several fine cats in the 15-25lb range both times I have done this. And plenty more smaller ones. If you don't use the hand wash bag, the catfish you catch will be bloated with cattle cubes and messy as you clean them if you puncture their stomach by mistake, and your cubes will be dissolved and gone(eaten)in about 2 hrs.
Give the bag a shake every now and then and you will see what looks like mud coming from the laundry bag as the finest particles of the cow cubes will come through it sending the chum line down stream attracting cats from all over.
Hope to be back in Milly sometime in March and try it again.
Store your cubes in a 5gal plastic bucket, dry, with lid snapped tight and they will last a long time. The lid will keep the kritters out specially the big tree roaches. They love the cattle cubes as much as the CATS and they will eagerly take up residence in the bag if you don't protect em...
How do you bait your dock??
come on.... FESS UP, Don't be askeerd!!!

Nice idea, I can also remember (from Texas) using cottonseed cakes for crappie.

I can also remember a fellow (in Texas) that used to guide for cats on Lake Fairfield, Squaw Creek and Lake Granbury. He also had a bait and chum called Mr. Whiskers, I believe his first name was Gene but his last name slips my memory. I watched him with his parties many times. he would go around the lake dropping his chum with an ice cream scooper in several select locations around the lake. he would then go back and make the same milk run until everybody had their limit of cats.

Nice, may have to look into that.
Sure would be nice if these GA folks would talk fishing on here. Dunno why they so shy!
perhaps if I shout out a ROLL TIDE a few times I might get em stirred up!
Note to GA fisherman.... Go look at the TEXAS FISHING FORUM. This site is run by the same folks. Great Place To Talk Fishing.
but..... YOU GOTTA TALK!!!

I really appreciate your help!! LOL They talk it up pretty much on GON, but it is hard to get them going on this site. I used to have a co-worker down in Macon that was a local legend on Sinclair. I will see if I can find his name and see if he is still around (or even still alive!)

At this rate I imagine JP will have to shut this thing down sooner or later. Probably cost some $$ to let it just sit here unused. I do surf the GON on occasion too. But make a habit of stopping by here a few times a month.

Actually JP is very optimistic about this site. As funny as it looks about the number of posts, its the number of hits this place gets, and surprisingly there are a lot of folks who look. That's good for advertisers.

Well, still using the same method and having great success with those Sinclair Cats. Even bought my sister her very own CAT outfit after she lost mine while not paying attention and a cat I presumed pulled it off the pier. She said it launched like a rocket and was gone.
Anyone find a 7ft Ugly Stick attached to a big Cat while feeshing Sinclair??
Im sure its out there somewhere caught in the tide....
Cant believe this site is sooooo dead for posting.
YOU PEOPLE LURKING..... Come look at the TEXAS FISHING FORUM at how its done!!!
Im gonna be moving to the lake in a couple of years.... and need this forum to catch on.

Hey Bob.... New Year and new bunch of feesh to catch. Started my house on Sinclair. Will be a regular on here once I get finished and moved.. Still using my kitty set-up as described above. My sister uses it from her dock with great success even without me there to assist. Sinclair kitties here don't care as much for Danny Kings like they do in Texas. But found another brand that works well. Tight Lines!!! - Sniper

Well..... still no one talking CATFISH on Sinclair. My house is a few weeks from being complete. Going to have to hand out flyers at the launch ramps to get this site stirred up some.... Or see if I can convince some guy in Southlake TX that goes by the name of HERSCHEL will come hang out with me in Milledgeville and catch a few cats.... You Ga fans may have seen him a few times.... I run into him all the time...
