Hope ya'll are ready to fish! we have the next one in our sites and it should be a good one!
The hours will be 7PM till 2AM, and all events will be held out Bartow County Gatewood Boat Ramp in Cartersville, GA. There will be a $50 entry fee ($10 to the Big Bass pot and $40 to a 1-5 payback, maximum 6 places), and an optional $10 side pot (winner take all on total weight). I have a 49 boat limit to avoid the $1million insurance cost. Even though we've come close a time or two we've never gone over that. I don't reserve spots in advance so get there early because if we ever reach 49 I will have to turn away anyone after that. The park launch fee is unchanged at $5 a launch or $40 annual pass (if you fish most of my Sunday Afternoons and Midnight Madness, the $40 is definitely more economical).
Rules?? yeah we do but only a few:
1. largemouth and spotted bass only, minimum 12", 5 bass limit, one dead fish allowed, but if weighing for Big Bass - Big Bass must be alive
2. Artificial baits only, no live bait (we tried it once and only one guy tried it for one trip, complained about the minnow bucket spilling on his carpet, end of that).
3. no rod length limits and trolling is allowed (not really a rule, I just put this in there because folks invariably ask me about it).
4. No alcohol during any of my events, ever. There is nothing more obnoxious or more dangerous than a drunk fisherman or boater. If I find out that you are doing it I will address it and my decision will be final. We just don't need it.
All tournaments are held out of Bartow County Gatewood Park: Exit GA-20 exit on I-75 and turn east, Turn south at the light (right from I-75, left from Canton) next to Wendy's onto Spur 20. Go about 2 miles and turn left on Jim Knight Rd., Turn left when it dead ends at the Bartow Beach Rd. (right in front of the COE maintenance yard). Stay on the Beach road and stay to the left past the park Manager's house and follow the signs to the left to the boat ramp
If the lot is full or the pay-box has no envelopes, just let me know and I will give you directions

Danged Warm is what we started with yesterday evening. It slowly cooled into a tolerable, but slightly muggy night. the water temps are creeping back up with 82 degrees being the normal on the main lake with about a 3-4' visibility in most areas. The fishing was pretty decent until the final two hours for Stan and I. Then it slowed considerably. I am sure other folks have a different story to tell.
We had a really good showing last night with 40 paid entries (41 boats including mine). There were 81 anglers weighing 123 fish for 215.33lbs (an average of 1.75lbs per fish!). Of that number there were 12 largemouth bass weighed in, Big Bass was a largemouth also. 15 boats did not weigh fish and I would bet they just didn't think they could compete with their fish so they threw them back in the lake.
Anyway, here is how the money paid out this morning:
Big Bass went to Chris and Noah with a 4.86lb Largemouth for $400
6th place went to "Possum" and Stacy with 5 fish for 9.43lbs and $80
5th place was John and Lonnie with 5 fish for 9.45lbs for $160
4th place was Jonathan and Josh with 5 fish for 9.67lbs and $272
3rd place was Scott, Daniel, and Dylan with 5 fish for 10.14lbs and $320
2nd place went to Scott B. and Derrick L. with 5 fish for 10.24lbs and $368
1st place and side pot went to Brian B. and Greg H. with 5 fish for 11.41lbs for $400 and the side pot of $410
Total payout last night was $2410! Not bad for a bunch of local yocals having a little derby on our home lake!

Those of you who know me know that I despise the yachts and huge cruisers on this lake and feel that they are the cause of our eroding shorelines, and cause immeasurable danger because the owners do not consider the hazards they cause for the thousands of smaller boats on this lake. One of the reasons for night tournaments (besides the restriction of daytime tournaments by the CoE) is to avoid these monsters. Last night about midnight or a little after we literally got swamped by one had their music cranked up and partying like there was no tomorrow. These people are oblivious to everyone else on the lake and very dangerous. Please keep your eyes open when running or fishing the main lake (they leave a rolling wake for about a mile behind them and you cannot see it after dark). I only wish there was something we could do to stop them after dark.
There you have it, my rant!!
We will see you guys on July 6th, I know it's the 4th of July weekend but try to come on out and suffer with the rest of us! LOL
