I have my eyes on the USGS page for Allatoona. They opened the gates back up on Christmas Eve and haven't slowed down! It's 6:10PM on Christmas day and the current level is 825.47, only 2 1/2 feet from the winter pool. If it reaches that before Sunday and they don't let it come back up that will close the last ramp at Gatewood. It's too early to panic, especially with the amount of rain in the forecast this week. I will keep you folks posted. Hopefully everyone will be ready to fish and nothing will stand in our way. I put out a donation tub Sunday afternoon and it worked really well. So my plan is to leave it out for a month or so and we'll see how well it works? If it goes well we'll have some new scales early in 2019! Don't feel like you have to chip in, but it does help. Right now I am looking at a set that weighs up to 60 pounds with weight lock feature for about $549 to $600. Any help is always appreciated.
The tournament runs from 1PM till 5PM. I will be there around noon to start collecting entry fees. You can usually find me down in the handicap area by the ramp $20 entry fee ($15 to a 1-5 payback, and $5 to Big Bass), and $10 optional side pot - Winner take all (total weight). 3 fish limit, one dead fish allowed. Big Bass must be alive to count. Team (no number restriction) or individual, you decide what works best for your boat. No live bait. Good sportsmanship and no alcohol during tournament. Pretty simple rules, huh?
All tournaments are held out of Bartow County Gatewood Park: Exit GA-20 exit on I-75 and turn east, Turn south at the light (right from I-75, left from Canton) next to Wendy's onto Spur 20. Go about 2 miles and turn left on Jim Knight Rd., Turn left when it dead ends at the Bartow Beach Rd. (right in front of the COE maintenance yard). Stay on the Beach road and stay to the left past the park Manager's house and follow the signs to the left to the boat ramp If the lot is full or the pay-box has no envelopes, just let me know and I will give you directions

As of 10:15AM on Friday morning the lake is rising quickly with the rainfall since yesterday evening. I have also spoken to the park manager who said the r/h ramp is still open and from the looks of it, will remain open. So the plan is to have our Sunday Afternoon at our normal place.

Since midnight last night (Thursday night), until 11:15PM on Friday night the lake has came up over 4', definitely not going to be a ramp issue on Sunday.

The lake is definitely back up, like 8' since Thursday night at Midnight!! The Park manager opened both ramps up at Gatewood. He also has the annual launch passes available in case you want one! The weather actually cooperated pretty well with temps steady in the low 50s, overcast and no rain!! Water temps are around 47 degrees, pretty dingy at Gatewood, but much cleaner up the Allatoona Creek side (not sure how far but at least in the Allatoona Pass area). I heard from one source that the further you went back in Stamps, it actually clears up. Nothing reported for the Etowah side but I would imagine the Sweet water Little River area is probably pretty dirty? We had 28 paid entries with a total 52 anglers. There were only 26 fish weighed in and only 2 largemouth bass out of that. 18 boats did not weigh in today. here's how the money paid out: 6th place for $21 went to Albert with 3 fish for 3.85lbs (four weeks in a row to be in the money!) 5th place went to Bob A. and Jason with 3 fish for 4.16lbs for $42 4th place for $71 went to Nick and Zack T. with 3 fish for 4.31lbs 3rd place for $84 was Mike M. and Jarrod with 3 fish for 4.76lbs 2nd place was Ken H. and myself with 3 fish for 5.28lbs for $97, we also had Big Bass with a 2.92lb spot for $140 1st place for $105 and the side pot for $290 went to Chuck and Caden Moore with 3 fish for 6.03lbs!! (Great Job!!)
Here's wishing all of you a Happy (and safe) New Years celebration. We will be right back at it again next Sunday if they don't suck the bottom out of the lake!
