We had an awesome turnout with 40 paid entries this past Sunday. Several new faces and some folks we haven't seen in a while. We also had a more young'uns fishing as well, I love it when you bring the kiddos!! It's going to be interesting as I understand the Dugout will be having their championship two day event this weekend out of Gatewood as well. I am not sure of how many boats they will have, but they start at safe light and fish till 3 or 3:30 I believe. We should be able to have our event as well since our start times and weigh in times are different than theirs. I will sign folks up at the top of the hill this Sunday so look for the White Ford and the big Astro, should be easy since several guys hang out to chat a while (just find the crowd and someone will point you in the right direction if you're not sure). Parking may be a bit of a challenge so plan on that. Long range forecast is showing colder and showers so be ready (it really is winter, despite the nice weather we had last Sunday!). Come on out and have a little fun with us!!
The tournament runs from 1PM till 5PM. I will be there around noon to start collecting entry fees. You can usually find me down in the handicap area by the ramp
$20 entry fee ($15 to a 1-5 payback, and $5 to Big Bass), and $10 optional side pot - Winner take all (total weight).
3 fish limit, one dead fish allowed. Big Bass must be alive to count. Team (no number restriction) or individual, you decide what works best for your boat. No live bait. Good sportsmanship and no alcohol during tournament. Pretty simple rules, huh?

All tournaments are held out of Bartow County Gatewood Park: Exit GA-20 exit on I-75 and turn east, Turn south at the light (right from I-75, left from Canton) next to Wendy's onto Spur 20. Go about 2 miles and turn left on Jim Knight Rd., Turn left when it dead ends at the Bartow Beach Rd. (right in front of the COE maintenance yard). Stay on the Beach road and stay to the left past the park Manager's house and follow the signs to the left to the boat ramp
If the lot is full or the pay-box has no envelopes, just let me know and I will give you directions

Definitely a winter day! The high reached about 41 as we were leaving the parking lot. In the upper thirties, cloudy, occasional mist with winds ranging from moderate to none at all. Water temps were around 48 degrees, fairly clear in the main lake, judging by some of the water I saw in the weigh in tub it must have been pretty dingy to dirty in some of the creeks. Following the Four Seasons finale yesterday it would seem that we had a tough act to follow. To keep it in perspective we have a 3 fish limit over a 4 hour period. To get paid today it took over 7 pounds. We had a lower turn out today and I think the weather forecast scared a lot of folks away, even though it wasn't as bad as the forecast made it sound like it was going to be.
We had 16 paid entries with 27 anglers, weighing 40 fish for a total of 84.6lbs, and there were 5 largemouth bass weighed in. The money paid out as follows:
4th place went to Albert L. with 3 fish for 7.32lbs and $24, Albert reported catching a slew of fish this afternoon on a crankbait!
3rd place was Dante and Dante T. aka Wedding crasher aka Dancing Fool aka Dante Travolta, and Dad, with 3 fish for 7.44lbs and $48
2nd place went to the team that wasn't getting out in this weather, Stephen and Deron with 3 fish for 8.18lbs and $72
1st place was the Allatoona Beast himself, Joe Croft with 3 fish for 10.10lbs and Big Bass with a 4.18lb largemouth, in fact he had two largemouths over 4 lbs (do you hear me Jim Hakala!? LOL), he also had a pretty nice spot to complete his limit, He walked away with 1st place for $96, Big Bass for $80, and the Side pot for $170! I'm not absolutely certain but I think I heard him muttering something like, " Why couldn't this of happened last weekend with 40 boats!!???"
I enjoyed it and I enjoyed seeing you guys today, hopefully the weather will settle down and the lake will finally get to the winter pool and stabilize a bit (maybe they will let it come enough to keep the ramp open!).
We will see you folks next weekend unless something of epic consequences shuts us down!
