August is upon us and we are having our firrst tournament of the month this Saturday Night, Aug, 11, 2018. The last couple of weeks have been interesting with the weatherr, but the forecast is for 20% chance of rain as of right now. We can do that!! Come one out and enjoy it with us!!
Remember you are not limited to two people, you determine how many people you want in your boat. one entry fee equals one limit of fish. you are allowed only one dead fish per limit (Big Bass must be alive). So if you want to load up the wife and kids, that's fine. Grandpa and the grandkids is fine too. Your regular fishing partner or solo, makes no difference to me. All I ask is that you be careful, safe, respectful and courteous.
We will be blasting off in order of sign up, remember not to jump the gun, go when your number is called. Try to position your boat to the side in which you intend to go (left, center or right). If a boat is entering the cove, let them in before you go.
Tournaments start at 7PM on Saturday evening and end at 2AM Sunday morning.
The rules are simple: 5 fish limit, minimum 12", 1 dead fish allowed, Big Bass must be alive. no live bait and no cast or gill nets (all fish caught on hook). no rod length limits and trolling is allowed. You determine if you are a team or fishing individual (you can only weight 5 fish per entry). Common courtesy and sportsmanship are fully expected, and no mind altering substances are allowed (alcohol or drugs) during the tournament (I didn't want to impose this rule but I have heard rumors and wanted to squelch any notion that I condone consumption during the tournaments).
The Entry fee is $50 ($10 to Big Bass, and $40 to a 1-5 payback, we pay 6 places from 25 entries to 49 entries, I cannot have more than 49 entries due to a $1million insurance requirement by the CoE).
I will normally be up by the restrooms at the top of the parking lot, if not, then look for me in the handicap parking by the ramp.
All tournaments are held out of Bartow County Gatewood Park: Exit GA-20 exit on I-75 and turn east, Turn south at the light (right from I-75, left from Canton) next to Wendy's onto Spur 20. Go about 2 miles and turn left on Jim Knight Rd., Turn left when it dead ends at the Bartow Beach Rd. (right in front of the COE maintenance yard). Stay on the Beach road and stay to the left past the park Manager's house and follow the signs to the left to the boat ramp
If the lot is full or the pay-box has no envelopes, just let me know and I will give you directions

A tad bit warm at blast off, but settled into a very comfortable evening on Toona. We had a humongus turn out last evening with 46 paid entries. The last team that signed up was the blast off meister. He did a wonderful job and got everyone off safely and efficiently. You guys deserve a part of the credit for that as well. It makes me proud when it's done right!
We had 112 fish brought to the scales for a total of 195.38lbs (average of 1.74lbs per fish), with a total of 6 Largemouth. Big Bass was a largemouth for 4.12lbs. I shudder to think what numbers would look like if everyone who caught fish, brought them to the scales. Unfortunately, 23 boats didn't weigh anything at all. I would like to think they had fish but just didn't think they would win anything, so they released them and got off the lake a little early or went straight to the house after loading up.
Anyway, it is what it is. There are always going to some money winners, however, and here they are!
6th place went to Scott and Jeff G. with 5 fish for 10.37lbs and $92
5th place was Vence and Jarrod with 5 fish for 10.41lbs and $184
4th place was Chris and Janey with 5 fish for 10.54lbs and $313
3rd place went to Jeff S. and Chris M with 5 fish for 10.86lbs and $368
2nd place and Big Bass went to Chad and Craig with 12.37lbs for $423 and Big Bass with 4.12lbs for $460
1st place went to two cantankerous old coots, Fatrat and Terry with 5 fish for 12.44lbs for $460 1st place and $470 Side Pot
That total pot came to $2770.00 last night, I hope you folks had fun and we will be back out there again on Aug 25, 2018.
