Porko's Midnight Madness June 9th, 2018 TRACKER.
Now it's time for the summer grind! The first Holiday crowd is recooperating and getting ready for the July 4th Holiday. Things have quieted down, A LOT! Stan and I went out last night and fished till 2:30AM and it was peaceful!! The crowd calmed down early and the fish were biting pretty well. We enjoyed it to say the least! Next Saturday will more than likely have a couple of my dear friends running the event on my behalf. If all goes as planned this week, my wife will be having knee replacement surgery on June 6th, meaning her discharge will likely be June 8th or 9th. Fishing will have to wait while I take care of my lovely spouse of 36 years! Alas, I will be thinking of you guys and hope to be back on the next one!

Tournaments start at 7PM on Saturday evening and end at 2AM Sunday morning.
The rules are simple: 5 fish limit, minimum 12", 1 dead fish allowed, Big Bass must be alive. no live bait and no cast or gill nets (all fish caught on hook). no rod length limits and trolling is allowed. You determine if you are a team or fishing individual (you can only weight 5 fish per entry). Common courtesy and sportsmanship are fully expected, and no mind altering substances are allowed (alcohol or drugs) during the tournament (I didn't want to impose this rule but I have heard rumors and wanted to squelch any notion that I condone consumption during the tournaments).
The Entry fee is $50 ($10 to Big Bass, and $40 to a 1-5 payback, we pay 6 places from 25 entries to 49 entries, I cannot have more than 49 entries due to a $1million insurance requirement by the CoE).
I will normally be up by the restrooms at the top of the parking lot, if not, then look for me in the handicap parking by the ramp.
All tournaments are held out of Bartow County Gatewood Park: Exit GA-20 exit on I-75 and turn east, Turn south at the light (right from I-75, left from Canton) next to Wendy's onto Spur 20. Go about 2 miles and turn left on Jim Knight Rd., Turn left when it dead ends at the Bartow Beach Rd. (right in front of the COE maintenance yard). Stay on the Beach road and stay to the left past the park Manager's house and follow the signs to the left to the boat ramp
If the lot is full or the pay-box has no envelopes, just let me know and I will give you directions

Thanks to Daniel and Trent for taking care of business for me last night. The word I got was nothing but good things!!
From the looks of the results, it appears that was a great event. The average weight per fish was up substantially at 1.95lbs per fish! Only two largemouth weighed in that I could see on the sheet (maybe more but just not recorded?). There were 67 anglers on the sign up sheet for 34 paid entries, 35 boats with Daniel and Trent. There were 120 fish for a total of 234.41lbs. Really good numbers for a lake that has the moniker of the "Dead Sea".
Here are the money spots:
6th place went to John (Shrek) and Lonnie with 5 fish for 10.98lbs good for $68
5th place was Chris M. and Jeff S. with 5 fish for 11.17lbs and $136
4th place went to Ryan and Chandler with 5 fish for 11.56lbs and $231
3rd place went to Derrick and and Eli (I hope I got that right, Boat #8?) with 5 fish for 12.16lbs for $272 and Big BAss with a 4.81lb (spot or largemouth?) for $340. NICE PAYDAY!
2nd place was Monty and Kris with 5 fish for 12.66lbS AND $313. (The word I got was you guys held the lead right up to the very last minute!)
1st place went to Daniel and Trent with 5 fish for 13.44lbs (weighed in the "very last minute"!) for $340 and side pot for 340. congrats to you guys and thank you again
Guys I have to express a few concerns about the blast off. I stood up there on the hill at the ramp and watched this one. The first thing I saw that bothered me was a family pulling an innertube trying to get in the cove and you guys proceeded to blast off all around them. The driver of the boat and the kids were terrified!! If that happens again, we wait until they are safely past all of the bass boats and out of harms way!
AT the same time there was tiny little aluminum boat with a small outboard attempting to get out of the cove on the right side, you folks nearly swamped him. Maybe you saw him or maybe you didn't, but please idle past these people before trying to get on plane - your initial wake is much larger than when you are on plane and can really cause a boat that size to capsize.
Finally, I saw two or three boats going at the same time, in fact it was pretty chaotic, folks going from the right crossing to the left and vice versa. We have blasted off for years in the order you sign up. I know that was Smooth's first time blasting off this crowd and probably wasn't easy to hear, or maybe he did it a little different. Regardless of what happened, it's time we recalibrate and start practicing a little more safety. I will be trying to get something a little more visual for the future, but for now: Whoever is blasting off needs to pull up by the buoy in the center of the cove, if you are going left then get on the left side of the buoy, straight in the middle by the buoy, right obviously on the right side of the buoy. DO NOT START UNTIL YOU HEAR YOUR NUMBER CALLED OUT! If there are people coming into the cove, yield to them, if there are small boats, be mindful of them. I am not bashing you guys, just trying to get this under control so that we do not hurt someone or bring adverse publicity to these tournaments.
