Summer is definitely here! I know we can't do anything about these temps, but maybe next weekend the boat traffic will be a little better (on Allatoona). I know I know, it's their lake too and they have a right to run around and make big waves and wash away the shoreline, slosh bass fishing folks all over the place. then wave at you like you're supposed to enjoy that, or want them to do it again!! lol! Along about 11:30PM the lake finally quiets down and it starts to get comfortable. Then something grabs that spinner-bait and things get better real fast! You haven't experienced that?? Well come on out to Gatewood this coming Saturday evening and see if you experience what I am talking about!! I will be up by the rest room end of the parking lot around 6PM signing folks up and horsing around with the regulars. We would love to see you!!

All tournaments are held out of Bartow County Gatewood Park: Exit GA-20 exit on I-75 and turn east, Turn south at the light (right from I-75, left from Canton) next to Wendy's onto Spur 20. Go about 2 miles and turn left on Jim Knight Rd., Turn left when it dead ends at the Bartow Beach Rd. (right in front of the COE maintenance yard). Stay on the Beach road and stay to the left past the park Manager's house and follow the signs to the left to the boat ramp. We usually collect money at the top of the parking lot near the restrooms.

Well we have five tournaments done for this season, and five more events to go for this summer. Last night was a our best turn out so far, for this year. We had 41 boats including Stan and I, 40 paid entries. Interesting night for sure, pleasure boater traffic was definitely down from the last event, with most of activity being around the marinas. Even that died off quickly after dark.It was mostly cloudy at tournament start, and settled into a partly cloudy evening in the 80s with a moderate breeze . Water temp was 84-85 degrees and pretty clear.

Out of the 41 boats fishing, there were 17 boats that did not weigh any fish, I believe they may have caught fish but just didn't bring them to the scales or maybe they had the same problem we had (not enough fish between the head and tail!!). Never-the-less, there were a lot of good fish weighed in. In fact it took at least 9.04lbs to get paid! The overall numbers looked like this: 81 anglers caught weighed 110 fish for a total weight of 184.52lbs (an average of 1.68lbs per fish). Of that number there were 10 Largemouth Bass, weighed with the largest being 7.73lbs. Unfortunately, the 7.73lb fish had expired and our rules do not allow a dead fish to qualify for the Big Bass pot. That honor went to a 5.03lb Largemouth.

Quick note on the dead Largemouth, it was my understanding that the fish was caught in deep water and needed fizzing. There are several ways to do that and I encourage all anglers to learn more about it. I keep a fizzing needle (or a pack of them) in my boat even though I don't always fish deep. I know you can get them at Nature's Tackle Box. The kit actually comes with directions that work.

Anyway, here's the way the money spots came down:

Josh and Tony had 6th place with 5 fish for 9.04lbs, for $80

Darren and Barry had 5th place with 5 fish for 9.55lbs, for $160

Bill P. and Chad got 4th place with 5 fish for 9.90lbs, for $272

Daniel and Trent had 3rd with 5 fish for 11.46lbs, for $320

Kacy and Brandon got 2nd place with 4 fish for 11.72lbs, for $368. They had the 7.73 LMB (expired), picture of this giant below.

Scott and Jeff proved to be the Kings of Toona again tonight with 5 fish for 13.48lbs and Big Bass of 5.03lbs. Their total winnings were $400 Big Bass, $400 for 1st place and $410 for the side pot ($1210.!!!!!).

Congratulations to the money winners, and to all of the guys that weighed many nice sacks last night!!

Next event, July 23, 2016, Come on out and help us break all previous records for turnout and numbers of fish weighed!!
