We are officially on a lake level watch this week. Although as of this writing it looks like the CoE finally turned off the spicket at just under 824' MSL which, I believe is good for the remaining Gatewood ramp (I will double check). It also looks like we are in for some fairly substantial rain around the middle of the week and that could actually bring the lake back up a little bit. For now, we will plan on still getting together on Sunday afternoon and keep our fingers crossed. right now it would appear that the temps will still be unseasonably warm next Sunday with a high around 73 degrees (WEIRD!) with a chance of showers in the morning hours.
Until I hear something different, I wish everyone of you and your families a joyous and Merry Christmas!

From I-75 North or South, Take Exit 290 (Cartersville/GA20 Exit) Travel East on GA 20 approximately 500 feet and take a right on GA Spur 20 (Between Kangaroo Grocery and Wendy's), travel approximately 3 miles and take a left on Bartow County Beach Road (the Corps signs no longer exist, so look for the small Gatewood Ramp sign)or turn left on Jim Knight Rd. and go till it dead-ends to Bartow County Beach Rd and turn left. Travel to the end of Bartow County Beach Road and the ramp will be on your left

As of Wednesday Afternoon, the ramp will still be open if it doesn't come down below the current level

The lake is up 2 1/2 ' and rising from this time yesterday. No sign of slowing down yet.

Well it just keeps on coming up. It's 4 PM on Christmas Day and the lake level is up almost 7' from day before yesterday. We were down to 16' below summer pool last weekend, now we are only 9' below summer pool. I would guess that we won't have any issues launching and loading in fact I am pretty sure I can get permission to open the outside ramp back up for the time being.

Saturday morning, 10 AM and Allatoona has passed the 834MSL mark meaning the lake is less than 6' from summer pool, up 10' since Wednesday. Carters Lake is pushing 1089'MSL this morning, 15' higher than it was on Wednesday night. That pretty much shuts Carters down since the two main ramps will probably be closed.

9:25AM and it looks like it is finally topping off at 835.09'MSL. The creeks are running red mud but the main lake is clear to slightly stained. lots of stuff floating out there. While I didn't see any major logs or trees in the area from Bartow Carver around to Iron Hill, there were lots of bottles, cans and small stuff.

This weather does not feel like winter AT ALL! December 27 with mid 70 degree temps! Now add an 11' rise in the lake level over three days, muddy creeks, but pretty decent color on the main lake, and water temps about 12 degrees warmer than normal for this time of year. I would say that the fish are a tad bit confused and typical patterns are no longer "typical". The amazing part of this puzzle is that someone always manages to figure the fishing out. In fact quite a few folks brought fish to the scales this evening. We had 33 paid entries, 34 boats with Wally and I. Of that number 23 folks weighed 3 fish limits. I know there were more fish caught and know that some folks throw them back when they feel that they don't have a chance to get in the money. Regardless, under the scenario I described above, those are some respectable numbers!
Anyway, here it is from the bottom up:
Mike Cronin had 3 fish for 5.55lbs and 5th plc with $25
Sean and Susan had 3 fish for 5.71lbs, 4th plc with $50
Brinson and Tom, along with Sonny and Jamey tied for 3rd place with 5.75lbs for $91 each team
Stephen and Garrett managed 3 fish for 6.07lbs for 2nd plc and $114
Richard Kennedy took the top honors and Big bass with a total of 6.11lbs and Big Bass for 2.95lbs, his winnings came down to $123 for 1st, $165 for Big Bass and $330 in the side pot! Way to go, Richard, Ryan will be buttin' his head against the wall!

Next weekend is shaping up to be a little more seasonal with the temperature forecast. We have a good shot at even more rain this week and I hope it doesn't mess the lake up any more. It won't matter, we're going to fish anyway! LOL! Here's hoping all of you can make it out there! Be safe on New Year's Eve. If you have to drink to celebrate please don't drive! Have fun and we'll see you on Sunday!!
