Picked up my little girl yesterday, she is 6 weeks old. I want to start bringing her out as young as possible and plan on her going with my most of the time. I'm considering bringing her to Porkos this weekend, especially since we have a nice warm day. So any input guys?

Her name is Nova, here's a few pics

She is beautiful John, congrats. My wife and i got a 6 week old beagle pup who is 16 months old now, i didn't take him in the boat until he was 1 year. He is doing fine now but for the first few trips have someone with you to hold her. Just my Opion but i wouldn't take her in the boat during a tournament especially if it's just you and her.

Thanks guys! Her eyes wont stay blue like that thou, they will turn hazel as she grows up, at least that is what her mother's did and they started just as blue.

Good info Keith, still on the fence about this weekend but if I do bring her ill just fish near Gatewood and stop every hour or so for a potty/play break. She still sleeps a lot but I want her to get used to the boat as young as possible

I would start taking her to the lake when she starts minding you, giving voice commands. Remember you will have to puppy proof the boat. Sharp hooks and young dogs don't mix. I use to take mine at first just for a boat ride to see how he would act. Then we did a little more each time, until he was comfortable with what was going on. I would get her a dog life jacket/vest just in case!! I almost lost mine dog one time when he jumped in after a duck. He got tired and almost drown. On a hot sunny day don't forget to take something will give your dog some shade, they do get hot.

Good advice! And I believe that might be the determining factor in how much/how soon we do this. I might just take her for a quick ride and a hour or so of fishing tomorrow just to test the waters but with full concentration on her. Once she obeys commands consistently we'll move onto full days and tournaments. Thanks again guys

Bill used to have a blue eyed Australian for a number of years. That dog was super smart and picked up commands really well. That was Brother Bill's companion for many years. He knows what he's talking about with dogs!
