We have a semi-local guy, Tom Frink, fishing in the college bracket this weekend (started today)up in Michigan. The winner of the 8 man bracket will get a spot in the 2014 classic.

For those who don't know Tom, he went to Kennesaw State for a few years, before transferring over to Auburn Montgomery to finish his degree. He is the #2 all time money winner for a co-angler in BASS history and is honestly the best fisherman I know, not to mention a great guy. We have been friends for quite a few years now, and is one of the few people who I think can compete at the pro level. Just wanted to give him a shout out, since it's pretty cool seeing a one time Allatoona local make it so far!

I met Tom a few years back when my neighbor bought the BassCatt that he got from Aaron Martens. Some of you may rememeber him fishing a Triton with power poles at few of the sunday afternoon events. Like Chris said, he is one heckuva an Angler and I hope he does well!

Both Auburn and Auburn Montgomery have great teams.

Jordan Lee (the one who ended up winning the bracket this year) is a very good angler on the Auburn team. You can see his FLW profile and tell that he has an amazing amount of ability: http://www.flwoutdoors.com/community/profile/home.cfm?uid=131840

18K in career earnings, and only fishing 26 tournaments so far, that is an awesome display of skill.

And then there is Tom, who has over $140K in earnings in only 30 tournaments with BASS: http://www.bassmaster.com/anglers/thomas-frink

I'm very positive we will be watching these guys fish for a long time to come. And to top it off, they are currently roommates, so I'm sure just the time they spend talking makes them that much better on the water.

I concur with that, Chris! It's amazing to see such talent at such a young age. Over time I believe that both of them may eclipse Kevin's accomplishments.

Don't forget about Jordan Lee's older brother Matt Lee. Him along with Jordan and Tom are amazing fisherman at such early ages. Yeah since they room together I know they share thoughts together which ultimately helps them all become better fisherman. These 3 guys along with many other pros and fishing friends are the ones that give me encouragement to keep pressing forward and become a better fisherman each time I go out fishing. I know I just started taking bass fishing seriously September 2012 and have gained more knowledge about bass fishing than I ever thought I could. There is still a lot more to learn but I am having a blast along the way. I plan on transferring to Kennesaw State next fall and I am considering joining their fishing team. I have to learn more about it and figure out which of the possible paths is the best for me to take.

I'm not saying I'm a expert, I'm just saying I can't wait to see what my future holds and how far I can go in competitive bass fishing smile

Have you met Kohl Lester of Nature's Tackle Box. He fishes KSU and could probably guide you through that process.

when you talk about Frink and the Lee brothers you must also consider that Nubby boy that partners with Frink. The Young harris team is also formidable. Brad Rutherford is no slouch.

Ok cool thanks for the information. I will try contacting him. Does Kohl work at Natures Tackle box? Or how can I contact him?

And of course their are a whole list of guys out there just as good as The Lee's and Tom Frink. It's just they have been getting most of the attention for winning the bigger tournaments in the college series these last few years.

These young college bass fisherman are pretty dang good. I hope they keep their studies up and graduate, they may need to fall back on degree some day to earn a real paycheck. Best of luck to them.
